Please forward this to my friends and supporters of the Class of 1963:
--------------------------------
Classmates, supporters and most of all, my friends,
As most of you know the rug was pulled out from under me in late October.  I was told that my stem cell transplant was reverting back to my old stem cells and destroying the new ones.
I was immediately put on a drug called decogen and did okay until about November 4
th
when it lowered my immune system to where I got pneumonia.
I ended up at St Charles Hospital on November 4th and do not remember anything that occurred until I came back from “lala land” on November 14th.   A diagnosis of aspergeles, a fungus in my lungs, took 7 days to grow in a Petri before they were able to administer the antibiotic.  I am glad I did not know what was going on.
I got out of the hospital on November 16th and have been slowly mending ever since.  However, the journey is not over.  I have several more sessions of the antibiotic before I go back to OHSU to treat the leukemia.  Now my main problem is infection resistance, I have none.
My husband, Tom and mother-in law, Victoria are taking great care of me.  Vic is the main cook and cleaner (awesome for 92 years old) and Tom is the “gofer” for food, doctor appointments, transfusions, etc.  He is also very good at getting me to do just a bit more (eating, walking, sleeping) and being the best support ever.  I was also told the greatest cheerleader was my son, Richard, who was there day and night; talking to me, making me drink and eat and telling me to K I A ( kick its ass).
Your cards, letters, prayers and support have been uplifting and inspiring.  They are humbly and gratefully appreciated.  I hope to keep updates coming your way.
I want to wish all of you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
God Bless you all.
Love,
Marsha Peters Eiguren

PS – I am looking forward to the class reunion in 1963 (smile)
